Art Gallery in the Historic Augustinian Monastery
Huis van Tichelen is located in the former Augustinian monastery from 1692 in Herentals. What remained hidden behind closed gates for centuries—first as a monastery, then as a tobacco warehouse, fire station, and city archive—was given a new cultural purpose as an art gallery in 2026.
Since then, the 17th-century heritage building has been accessible to the general public.
Heritage Restored to Its Glory
The building underwent a thorough renovation in which historical elements were made visible again. False walls and office structures were removed, monumental gates restored, parquet floors and ceilings refreshed, and the building was made fire-safe and accessible.
The lighting was also developed specifically for the gallery, with attention to color rendering and the overall experience. The result is a minimalist exhibition space of approximately 500 m² where art is showcased to its fullest potential.
Historic Herentals
Huis van Tichelen is located in the heart of Herentals and enhances the city's cultural landscape, alongside the Fraikin Museum, Le Paige Castle, and the Hugo Voeten Art Center, among others.
The combination of historical heritage and contemporary art makes Huis van Tichelen a special destination for art lovers, collectors, and curious visitors.
