From Herk-de-Stad, Patrick Leenaers develops an idiosyncratic visual language around his handmade Mennekes: small, seated figures that are each individually labeled as authentic work. They form the heart of his paintings and installations, built from recovered materials such as wood, stone and metal. The Mennekes are a symbol of connection: individuals who exude strength together and send a warm message about solidarity and human contact.
