Opening of the Huis van Tichelen Gallery
From 1 May to 12 July 2026 Huis van Tichelen opens its doors with ArtExpression, the first exhibition in the former Augustinian Monastery in Herentals. More than ten regional, national and international artists show a broad spectrum of contemporary art: from painting and mixed media to glass, bronze and digital creations.

Art is created in the master's imagination
Just as the craft of the chisel was driven out by the brush. Just like portrait painters and communicative art in the home had to compete with photography. For example, the art craft of beauty has a new brush: Artificial Intelligence, where text commands put computers to work to create images based on written imagination. Masterpieces are created by impossible questions hidden in “prompts” combined with infinite patience characterized by selection and rejection. Perception, or what an image does to people, remains the property of human existence, just like fantasy.
They all grew out of the chaos of pixels that form an image through the play of text, chance and selection. Reworked into a philosophical symbiosis of image and meaning. Narrator of the word that was shaped by images.

Huis van Tichelen aims to be more than just an exhibition space. It is a place where art and the public can meet in peace. Where works are not only displayed but can also be acquired. A gallery with the atmosphere of a museum, but with the dynamism of a living art venue.
